Born in 1959 in England, Russell Young is a multidisciplinary artist based in London and Los Angeles. A former rock art director and photographer, he turned to the visual arts in the 2000s with a practice built around large-scale screen printing on velvet canvas. His portraits of icons, Elvis, Mao, Marilyn, Sharon Tate, are rendered in intense pigments with sumptuous texture, giving his works a profound emotional charge that sits between fascination and melancholy.
