Tullio Francesco DeSantis (born 1948), also known as Tullio, is an American contemporary artist, writer, technologist, and teacher. His work is informed by ancient and contemporary philosophy, science, and the relationship between art and life.

 

Tullio DeSantis began his career as a conceptual artist/writer by creating his regular column titled MINDSTREAM, which appeared in the underground press periodical, The Rip Off Review of Western Culture, published by Rip Off Press in San Francisco in the early 1970s.

 

In 1978, Tullio’s pieced-paper piece toured nationally with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and in 1980 his work was exhibited by the NY Museum of Modern Art’s  Art Lending exhibition, entitled “Maps”. During the 1980’s, Tullio received a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grant for his collaborative work with Keith Haring. Additionally, he established working collaborations with Allen Ginsberg, LA II, and other writers, poets and artists.

 

He began showing in New York in the 1980s, with his first solo NYC show at Tradition 3000 Gallery in the East Village.

 

Tullio continues painting, drawing, sculpting, creating music, and video work at his farm in rural Pennsylvania.

Biography

Tullio Francesco DeSantis (born 1948), also known as Tullio, is an American contemporary artist, writer, technologist, and teacher. His work is informed by ancient and contemporary philosophy, science, and the relationship between art and life.

 

Tullio DeSantis began his career as a conceptual artist/writer by creating his regular column titled MINDSTREAM, which appeared in the underground press periodical, The Rip Off Review of Western Culture. The publisher of this magazine was the Rip Off Press located in San Francisco in the early 1970s.

Throughout the 1990s, Tullio exhibited his work online and in real life, including his 1992 exhibit,  "ACROSS THE YOU-NIVERSE", at the Freedman Gallery of Albright College, Reading, PA. And in 1993, "The Missing Link", at the New Arts Program, Kutztown, PA.

 

In the new century, Tullio exhibited his work in online venues, including, in 2010, “ The Facebook Show” at the Detroit Museum of New Art, Detroit, MI, and The  International E-mail Audio Art Project, hosted by The  Internet Archive. In 2014 tullio exhibited at The Long Island Biennial, a collaborative piece with Dee Shapiro, Heckscher Museum, NY. And in 2017, Tullio participated in “Deck the Walls”  at the National Arts Club, NY, NY.  In 2018 Tullio’s show ,  “Hadron Collider of Love, was exhibited at  273 Bleeker Street, NYC. and in 2019, at the Goggleworks Gallery, Reading, PA.

 

The work of Tullio DeSantis is represented exclusively and internationally by Gallerie de Bellefeuille, Montreal, Canada.
