"I spontaneously apply various color combinations to each blob, aiming to captivate the viewer with their sculpture-like qualities and the myriad of contrasting colors."
Mike Hammer is a contemporary abstract painter who explores color and the tridimensional nature of paint. Hammer creates his sculptural multicolored ‘blob’ paintings by meticulously pouring acrylic paint from squeeze tubes. Each ‘blob’ ring interacts with those above and below resulting in unique and vibrant interplays. Hammer’s paintings celebrate the vitality and power of color and push painting into the realm of sculpture.
“I am fascinated with paint and color. My blob paintings are created by pouring layer upon layer of acrylic paint in concentric rings. I spontaneously apply various color combinations to each blob, aiming to captivate the viewer with their sculpture-like qualities and the myriad of contrasting colors. Arranged organically, the compositions are intended to produce a feeling of free-flowing movement.”
Hammer is represented by galleries in Canada and the United States. His work can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the world. Hammer currently lives with his wife and three children outside Toronto.
