Jonah Waterous
Jonah Waterous (b. 1996, Canada) is a contemporary artist based in the Bahamas, where he lives and works from his private studio. Raised in the vibrant island environment, Jonah's artistic vision is shaped by both his Canadian roots and Bahamian surroundings. He studied at Queen’s University and trained for years under world-renowned artist Jane Waterous, whose mentorship helped hone his unique visual language.
Jonah’s signature technique involves meticulously hand-painting thousands of three-dimensional dots onto the canvas. His process creates rich, tactile surfaces that shimmer with movement as light interacts with the layers of colour. The resulting texture not only adds depth and vibrancy but invites viewers into an almost physical engagement with the work—drawing them in with an urge to touch the surface and experience its sculptural quality.
His ongoing series, Larger Than Life, magnifies the most minute details of subject matters to celebrate the extraordinary within the ordinary. By exploring detail on a grand scale, Jonah challenges viewers to slow down and find meaning in the smallest things.
