Zhang He is a Chinese-Canadian painter born in Shenyang, China, in 1963. He trained at the Shenyang Institute, where he studied photography, stage design, and oil painting. In 1998, he moved to Montreal, where he developed a singular artistic practice bridging Eastern visual traditions with Western expressionism. His technique is characterized by a sculptural application of pigment, creating floral and abstract compositions of great textural density, where color structures the pictorial space.
