Overview
"Inspired by Goya, Picasso and Henry Moore, her works range in scale from small, compelling bronzes to monumental pieces, loosely composed and always in motion."
Sophie Ryder was born in London in 1963 and lives in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside with her family. She studied visual arts at the Royal Academy Schools and while obtaining her diploma in painting, was encouraged by teaching artists to develop her sculpture. She first presented work at the Zurich Art Fair in 1986 and was an immediate success. She is a sculptor whose chosen vernacular is the animal form, although she is not in any ordinary sense an animal artist. Inspired by Goya, Picasso and Henry Moore, her works range in scale from small, compelling bronzes to monumental pieces, loosely composed and always in motion.
